Comilla Medical College at a glance

Comilla Medical College is a government medical college conducting MBBS and postgraduate courses in 6 disciplines under Chittagong University, Chittagong Medical University and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). Academic activities of Cumilla Medical College started in 1991-1992 session. Every year 180 students are admitted in MBBS and 24 students are admitted in different postgraduate courses.

It is situated in Kuchaitali, 5 kilometer south east from Cumilla town and 100 kilometer south east from capital city Dhaka. H.S.C / A level or equivalent examination passed candidates are selected centrally through a competitive admission test every year conducted by Directorate General of Health Services. Students from foreign countries are also selected for admission in this college from session 2005-2006. Medium of teaching is English. Total 32 batches of students are admitted of which 27 batches already completed their graduation as MBBS. At present there are 870 students among them 23 foreign students from Palestine, Pakistan, Bhutan, Nepal and Maldives.  

Land area of the college campus is 11 Acres. College building area is about 1,86,000 Sq. ft. and Hospital building area is about 2,70,000 Sq. ft. Total 44 departments are running in the Medical College and Hospital. Two female hostel, Two boys hostel, Two internee hostel, One post graduate student hostel, One Nursing Institute, One Institute of Nuclear Medicine and allied Sciences, One Morgue, Staff Quarters, Mosque, Shaheed Minar and a Playground are there in the campus. The library of this college is fully air-conditioned which is enriched with on-line section containing 11,186 books and 3,978 journals. Journal of Cumilla Medical College Teachers Association is the Official Journal of Cumilla Medical College, recognized by Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council.

The attended Medical College Hospital is a 500 beded academic hospital. This hospital is headed by a Director who is also the Vice-Chairman of the Academic Council of this Medical College. After passing final professional MBBS examination, students of this college complete one year internship training in this hospital. Post Graduate Course of DA, DGO, DLO, DCH, D-Ortho, DMRD id running under BSMMU. Government & Non-Government Graduate and post graduate doctors are also taking training in this institute.
